The Wild Tame The Runners 5-2
After a fast three-win start to the season, the RoadRunners came back to earth on Wednesday at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, MN. A close game through the first two periods until Wenatchee turned on the gas in the third, defeating Topeka 5-2.
The Wild drew first blood in the first on a Nicklas Balboa goal (assisted by Justin Plate at 8:17). The Wenatchee edge would last until 11:57 of the second period when Jerad Tafoya squared the score at one with a netter assisted by Shawn Brennan. After James Mathias’ goal at 17:20 in the second (assisted by Mike Coin), it was 2-1 Wenatchee.
In the third the Wild tallied two powerplay goals (the first that the Runners have allowed all season) and a third at even strength. Michal Uhrik scored at 12:17 (assisted by Jasen Fernsler) to make it 5-2 and that’s where the score would stay until the final buzzer.
On Thursday the RoadRunners will take on Johnstown at 4:30pm, Friday’s opponent is the Soo Eagles at 1:15pm, and Saturday they will wrap up the trip against the Aberdeen Wings. All of the games, and every game this season, will be broadcast live on Sports Radio 1490 AM and on iHeartRadio on your mobile device.
Topeka returns home on September 27th to take on the Springfield Jr Blues. Saturday night’s game will be Youth Jersey Night, brought to you by Pella Windows, Lynette Hudson State Farm Insurance, Vision Bank, and the Kansas Expocentre. And every time the RoadRunners get 5,000 people in the arena this season, one lucky fan will walk away $5,000 richer courtesy of Sharp Honda.
