SOMERSET CAMP WRAPUP

by Arch Ecker

The Topeka RoadRunners held the second of three summer tryout camps over the weekend in Somerset, WI. Head Coach Scott Langer and Assistant Coach R.J. Enga had a solid support staff including scouts Tom Kelly and Steve Jennings, along with RoadRunner alumni Matt Hartmann, Jeff Burke, Ross Trousdale, Ted Thompson (Lone Star Cavalry), and Josh Kamrass. The camp opened with a goalies only session and wound up Monday morning with an All-Star game that put the finishing touch on a solid weekend of hockey. \”Overall, the camp was a success\”, said Enga. \”In a short amount of time, there was lot of great competition, and the All-Star Game on Monday was a good, fast-paced game.\”

Langer was pleased with the level of competition as well, as was glad to see numerous other junior scouts in attendance. \”Not every kid can make the ‘Runners roster. But there are always players that we want to keep an eye on as they continue to develop\”, said Langer. \”We try to help every player find a team that will help with their growth and that fits their skill set.\” He went on to praise the Booster Club who were well represented at the camp. \”It\’s unbelievable, the job these guys do. From running guys back and forth to the airport to keeping stats, hotel shuttling, and cooking; it\’s just amazing. As a program, we are truly blessed to have such a dedicated bunch of fans.\”

There is still one more open tryout camp this summer in Woodridge, IL in July and it promises to be a good one.
