The Topeka RoadRunners are proud to announce defenseman Justin Smith has committed to play at Ferris State University, where he will play for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs are a Division I member of the WCHA, and are in their 26th season under head coach Bob Daniels.
Smith, a 6’ 1” defenseman, will return to his home state of Michigan for his collegiate campaign. Hailing from Lansing, Smith has three goals and three assists in 40 games with the RoadRunners and Philadelphia Rebels this season.
“We’re thrilled for Justin,” RoadRunners head coach Justin DeMartino said. “He’s put in a lot of work this season to get where he is now. Since joining the RoadRunners, he’s been an immediate impact for us. Ferris State is getting a great person and a great defenseman.”
DeMartino, also a Ferris State University graduate, attested that Smith has a lot to be proud of.
“It’s a pretty cool for Justin to continue his playing career, and it’s exciting for him and his family that he’s heading back to his home state.”
With a handful of games still on the slate, there is also still time for more players to get exposure to collegiate scouts.
“We’ve still got a lot of hockey left, and I’m excited to see what comes of the rest of this season for signings and collegiate commitments,” DeMartino said.
