Sharkey Does it Again, Downs Tornado 2-1
Trail. Tie. Win. That’s the simple formula that’s been executed to success by the RoadRunners (17-5-3) so far this season. The Tornado (17-9-1) carried a one point advantage into the third only to see it evaporate for the second time in as many nights with Kyle Sharkey once again delivering the knockout blow.
The aforementioned lead came courtesy of Nick Blase’s goal at 15:57 in the first period. From that point on, Spencer Viele and the RoadRunner defense locked down the goal line, stopping the next 20 shots.
The RoadRunners finally broke through during a penalty kill at 6:57 in the third when Drew Kariofiles found the back of the net, tying the game at one.
All the RoadRunners had to do then was get the puck to Sharkey, which they did just beyond the face-off circle in the Tornado zone at 12:46. Sharkey slapped the puck on a line, past two defenders and the goalie, lifting the RoadRunners to a series win and back atop the South Division (tied with Amarillo at 37pts).
The RoadRunners return to the ice next weekend against Wichita Falls at Landon Arena. For more information of tickets, call 785-286-PUCK or visit the Expocentre Box Office
