Runners Sweep Cats
Topeka needed to take both games and all four of the points that came with them this weekend in order to keep pace with Rio and Amarillo in the South Division. And when the final horn sounded on Saturday night, that's exactly what they had done. A 2-1 victory on Friday was followed by a three-point shutout on Saturday as the Runners took their fourth straight against Wichita Falls.
In game one, the Runners trailed 1-0 heading into the second period when Cody Champagne capitalized on a man advantage to tie the proceedings. In the third, Jake Kamrass fired in the game winner at 10:44, securing the 2-1 win. PJ Bridges was under siege all night, fending off 39 of 40 shots to take his 17th win in net this season. the Runners were outshot 40-25 but made the most of their chances in edging out the Cats.
Except for the final score, things were a little more even on Saturday night. Wichita Falls still put more pucks on net but were held to only 30, all which were turned away by goaltender Drew Vogler. Counting the shootout loss to Springfield earlier this season, Vogler racked up his third shutout and his ninth win in net. Offensively, newly acquired Runner Zach Glienke notched his first goal of the year while James Ring and Jerad Tafoya had a goal and assist each to lead the way towards the 3-0 win.
The Runners head to Lone Star to take on the Brahmas for the last series of what has been a month long road trip. Fans can catch all the action at Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant or on Sports Radio 1490 KTOP. They return to Landon Arena on February 28th. RoadRunner 2014-2015 season tickets are now on sale.
