Runners Sweep Caps Season

Runners Sweep Caps Season

The RoadRunners put an exclamation point on their strong season, taking the final series of the season after a 6-2 win in Wichita Falls.

Zach Glienke led the way with three points in this one, assisting the Runners' second and fifth goals and scoring one his own at 14:52 in the second period. Jerad tafoya had the game winner, the third goal scored by Topeka at 14:00 of the first. Jasen Fernsler chimed in two goals of his own and James Ring added two assists as well. Leading 3-1 after the first period, Glienke and Fernsler put the game out of reach with a pair of scores 16 seconds apart. Micahl Uhrik posted a netter in the third to give the team a 6-1 edge. The Wildcats would cut that lead to four before the final horn but it was not enough as Topeka rolled away with a 6-2 victory.

The in made little difference in the standings as Amarillo outlasted Odessa 3-2 to solidify their two-point lead over Topeka for first place and home-ice advantage throughout the South Division Playoffs. By virtue of finishing second, the Runners have earned home-ice in the first round where they will face the Rio Grande Killer Bees. In their four meetings this season, the Runners bested the Bees three times and outscored them 16 to six.

The South Division Playoffs begin next weekend and the Runners will be hosting games one and two at Landon Arena. Dates and times for the games will be announced soon.
