Runners Roll Over The Cats 6-3
Now that’s a little more like it! Playing with a renewed fire and determination, the RoadRunners laid it on early and late to top the visiting Wildcats 6-3.
Wasting little time in the first period, Peter Halash beat Evan Cowley with the puck at 5:25 to give the RoadRunners a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats would even the score at one with Nick Farmer’s unassisted goal at 13:07, but that was as good as it would get for Wichita Falls. James Ring put Topeka back on top with a backhander (13:35) and Peter Halash scored again, this time on a power play, to close the opening frame at 3-1.
In the second period, Tyler Poulsen’s goal at 3:39 widened the RoadRunner lead to 4-1, chasing Cowley who was replaced by Cooper Cook.
Things got a little more interesting in the final period beginning with Eliot Grauer’s goal at :46 that cut the lead to two. Grauer struck again at 11:04, putting pressure on the RoadRunners to protect a dwindling 4-3 lead. Four minutes later, Tyler Andrew gave Topeka some much needed breathing room with a goal at 15:23. And then James Ring, whose goal in the first started it all, put the game away with his netter at 16:37. All in all, 12 RoadRunners earned points on the night on the way to a 6-3 victory.
The RoadRunners return to the ice on Saturday against the Wichita Falls Wildcats during St. Francis Hospital Night at Landon Arena. For more information on tickets, call 785-286-PUCK or visit the Expocentre Box Office.
