Runners Moo-ve Up, Sweep Bulls 4-2

With time running out on the season, Topeka needed to make the most out of their trip to Amarillo if they wanted to challenge for first place. Taking both games did the trick. Brilliant play in net and timely special teams lifted the Runners over the Bulls 4-2 in Amarillo on Saturday night.

After a scoreless first, James Ring found the net unassisted at 4:25 of the second to give the Runners a lead they would not relinquish. Less than two minutes later with a man advantage, Daniel Rzavsky found the back of the net to hand the visiting squad a 2-0 edge heading into the third.

On a power play left over from the second, Tyler Poulsen slipped the puck past Berrafato during a sustained assault on the Amarillo net for the eventual game winning goal. On another power play at 4:01, Jasen Fernsler stretched the lead to 4-0. The Bulls made a bit of a challenge as the period progressed but to no avail and the Runners left Amarillo now only two points behind the South Division leader.

PJ Bridges was stellar once again in net, nearly nabbing his 10th shutout of the season after stopping 39 of 41 shots on goal. With a goal and assist each, Ring and Fernsler led the way offensively for Topeka who, after falling to Amarillo in their first five games, have won five straight against the defending Robbie Cup Champions.

The Runners return Monday night for a two-game set against the Wichita Falls Wildcats at Landon Arena. Tickets to these games and season tickets for the 2014-2015 season are now on sale.
