The Topeka RoadRunners participated in the 2011 NAHL Entry Draft on Thursday afternoon, making four selections. "The draft is a great tool for us to start locating the components to our team as we reload", said head coach / GM Scott Langer. "However, no one is guaranteed a spot on the team. Everyone needs to earn their spot, from returning veterans to tenders to draft picks."
Topeka's first pick was Austin Azurdia of the Dallas Ice Jets. He was impressive in the RoadRunners Holiday Showcase in December but was already on the radar. 'Runners scout Steve Jennings said, "From early on in the year, he made it known he wanted to be part of the RoadRunner family and did whatever it took to earn this opportunity." Ice Jets assistant coach and 'Runners Head Scout Tom Kelly says of Azurdia, "He's a very dynamic player and he brings a lot of offense."
