Runners Can’t Flap Wings, Fall 1-0

Good things happen when the puck goes in the net, not so much if it doesn’t. In their final game in Blaine, the Runners couldn’t dent the scoreboard against the Aberdeen Wings who would win the day by a slim 1-0 margin.

The first period would be the difference in this game even though no scoring occurred. Andrew Roye was flagged for holding at 19:03 in the period and Tyler Groat followed him into the box at 19:46 for tripping. The resulting two-man advantage bled into the second when Jake Horton took advantage (assisted on the powerplay goal by Dillon Eichstadt and Bjorn Sigurdarson at :19), giving the Wings what stand up as the final score of the game.

Topeka returns home on September 27th to take on the Springfield Jr Blues on Friday and Saturday night. On Saturday night there will be a youth jersey giveaway brought to you by Pella Windows, Lynette Hudson State Farm Insurance, Vision Bank, and the Kansas Expocentre. It will also be the night we celebrate the 1,000th broadcast of Arch Ecker’s RoadRunner career. And every time the RoadRunners get 5,000 people in the arena this season, one lucky fan will walk away $5,000 richer courtesy of Sharp Honda. For more information on tickets, call 785-286-PUCK or visit the Expocentre Box Office.
