RoadRunners Roll to 5-2 Win Over Springfield
After Friday night’s loss, the RoadRunners (15-4-3) had something to prove against the North Division Jr. Blues (10-10-2). With two goals in each of the first two periods, and one in the third, Topeka looked dominant in their 5-2 win at Springfield.
Of course, the Jr. blues did hold a brief lead in this one. At 1:42 in the first, Dylan Rosen looped the puck over Spencer Viele’s shoulder to make it 1-0 Springfield. From then on, it was all RoadRunners.
Kyle Sharkey tied the score at one with a powerplay goal at 16:15. A little over a minute later, Sharkey put his team in front with an even-strength goal at 17:24.
Brandon Bistodeau and Drew Kariofiles added another two powerplay goals in the second (at 3:01 and 16:26 respectively) giving the RoadRunners a commanding 4-1 lead. Springfield’s Jack Sloan would trim the score to 4-2 with two seconds left in the period but it would not be enough to rally the Jr. Blues. Peter Halash’s goal at 5:02 in the third was the last of the game, making it a 5-2 final.
“Players bought in defensively tonight,” said Head Coach Scott Langer. “It was a very determined effort by our entire lineup.”
The RoadRunners are now in a three-way tie for first in the South Division with Texas and Amarillo (33pts). The stage is now set for a big showdown at Landon Arena between Topeka and the Tornado next weekend (Nov. 23, 24, and 25).
That weekend will also be Parents/Billets Appreciation Weekend. Fans and families can hit the lanes at Gage Bowl on Huntoon on Wednesday night at 9pm. There will be a Broom Ball Game on Friday from 1pm-3pm at Landon Arena. And on Saturday, fans are invited to the RoadRunners Family Breakfast at Ag Hall from 8:30am-10:30am.
