RoadRunners Raise $3,000 For Breast Cancer Research

The Topeka RoadRunners presented a $3,000 check to the American Cancer Society at the “Making Strides” fundraising walk yesterday. The Making Strides event was held on the Capitol building lawn downtown. Reggie the RoadRunner and Executive Director of Business Operations Joe Clark were on hand for the presentation which culminated months of hard work on the part of both the Runners and the American Cancer Society. Earlier this month, RoadRunners players and fans hung up the blue and red and pinked the rink to help raise awareness about breast cancer in the Topeka community. At the end of the series, the specialty jerseys were auctioned off in a flurry of bidding that helped raise the aforementioned three grand for breast cancer research.

“We want to help groups like the American Cancer Society and want them to use the RoadRunners as a vehicle to get their message out,” said Clark.

The American Cancer Society has shown great appreciation toward the Topeka RoadRunners and their philanthropic efforts. “We truly appreciate everything the Topeka RoadRunners are doing to help spread the word about breast cancer awareness and to let the community know how to get behind the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraising walk on October 20th,” added the Regional Director of Communications for the American Cancer Society Jill Sittenauer.  “The Pink the Rink nights were very meaningful for all of the survivors, caregivers and supporters who attended and saw the RoadRunners play great hockey in their commemorative pink jerseys.”

RoadRunner fans are reminded that the next charity jersey auction will be held on Shriners Weekend (Nov.22-23rd) during the series against the Odessa Jackalopes at Landon Arena.
