RoadRunners Pink The Rink In 4-2 Win

RoadRunners Pink The Rink In 4-2 Win

The RoadRunners turned pink for the weekend to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month and ended up celebrating a win against the Lone Star Brahmas. In a back and forth affair, Topeka pulled ahead in the third to grab their sixth victory of the young season and the first game of this series 4-2.

While the home team was flying around the Brahmas net during the opening frame, it was Lone Star who drew first blood at 14:49 off the blade of Paul Fregeau. It would remain 1-0 until 16:20 in the second when Jake Kamrass (assisted by James Ring and Jerad Tafoya) tied the game with a hard fought goal through a scrum in front of the net. Kamrass’ goal began a mini-flood of scoring as Alex Dagnal reclaimed the lead for Lone Star at 17:42 and Sly Sutter retied it with netter at 19:56 (assisted by Brandon Vuic).

The game was still 2-2 late in the third when Clint Garris broke the stalemate (assisted by Ring and Kamrass) at 13:09. The Brahmas were afforded little chance after that as the Runners kept the puck firmly in the offensive zone, eventually tacking on an empty netter (Sam Rennaker, unassisted at 19:56) to cap off a 4-2 win.

Pink the Rink Weekend concludes tomorrow night at 7pm, as the Runners look to finish the series strong and make a lot of money to help fight breast cancer. After the game, the Runners will auction off their jerseys with half the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Race Against Breast Cancer and Relay for Life will be at the arena as well to help raise awareness of this dreaded disease. The National Wild Turkey Federation will be holding a special raffle and there will be a Late Skate with the Runners after the auction.
