TOPEKA, Kan. – The Topeka RoadRunners announced recently that the organization has added two players – one defenseman and one forward – from the USHL to their active roster. Both players are committed to Division I programs.
Defenseman Trevor Zins (St. Michael, Minn.) was acquired from the Omaha Lancers just prior to the RoadRunners’ most recent series at Lone Star. Zins played in both games – a 3-2 Topeka win and a 3-2 overtime loss. Zins is committed to Hockey East’s University of Lowell.
Zins played in 29 games for the Lancers during the 2015-16 season and had played 9 games this year before moving to Topeka.
Forward Johnny DeRoche, who is committed to Quinnipiac of the ECAC, was acquired from the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders recently and is expected to be in the lineup when the RoadRunners travel to Wichita Falls for a three-game series next week. DeRoche, a native of Lynnfield, Mass., is a product of the Boston Jr. Bruins program. He played in 39 games in the USHL last season for Cedar Rapids and contributed 5 goals and 14 assists.
NOTES …… The RoadRunners are expecting forward DJ Busdeker(Dexter, Mich.) back in the lineup next week after being on the IR for more than a month. Busdeker was one of the RoadRunners top scorers (13 points in 12 games) before being sidelined with a lower-body injury …… Goaltender Ryan Snowden was named the NAHL South’s No. 2 star of the week recently after he helped his team gain 3 of 4 points at Lone Star …… ForwardsMarcus Russell, Jeff Makowski and Alex Frye are tied for the team lead in goals scored with 7, while Russell is the team’s overall points leader with 17 in 19 games …… Both RoadRunner goaltenders have nearly identical stats – Ryan Snowden has a GAA of 3.22 and save percent of .913; Mike Rockwell is at 3.28 and also has a save percentage of .913.
