RoadRunners and Expocentre Present Police Foundation Donation
Topeka, KS – March 12, 2013 – The Topeka RoadRunners and the Kansas Expocentre today presented The Fraternal Order of Police Foundation (FOP Foundation) with a check for $2,116 to send the families of CPL David Gogian and OFC Jeff Atherly to Washington DC for the National Police Week Memorial.
The money was raised during the RoadRunners March 1st game against the Wichita Falls Wildcats. One dollar from each ticket sold that day was collected by the team with the Expocentre making a matching donation.
“This helps out tremendously,” said FOP Foundation Vice President Steve Evans. “The families have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from the community. They are very grateful to get the opportunity to see the names of their loved ones on the memorial in DC. On their behalf, I want to express our heartfelt thanks for what the RoadRunners, the Expo and the people of Topeka have done to make this possible.”
Those who wish to make further donations to the FOP Foundation can do so on-line at their website, www.fop3foundation.org, by clicking on the donation button.
The FOP Foundation supports many projects and activities designed to honor America's law enforcement officers, foster community involvement, and aid families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Some of these programs include Disaster Relief, the National Peace Officers' Memorial Service, Educational Programs, Critical Incident Programs, and grants for lodges and members.
The Topeka RoadRunners have helped over 200 players earn scholarships to Div. IA schools. While the RoadRunners commitment to excellence on the ice is strong, their determination to give back to the community off the ice is even more so. With partnerships with the VA Hospital, the National Guard, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, St. Francis Hospital, The United Way, the Topeka Rescue Mission, SADD, local law enforcement and firefighters, the RoadRunners have endeavored to help make Topeka an even better place to live.
