RoadRunners Add Becanic To Staff

The Topeka RoadRunners announced on Thursday that they have reached an agreement with John Becanic to join the coaching staff in the role of special consultant.

RoadRunner Head Coach / General Manager Scott Langer began his coaching career alongside Becanic in Bismarck in the AFHL in 1997. Becanic went on to later win a Robertson Cup with the Pittsburgh Forge (NAHL) in 2003. He also coached the Everett Silvertips (WHL) and most recently was the Head Coach for the Wenatchee Wild (NAHL) for two seasons. Becanic was in Topeka for a weekend series earlier in the month and the reunion was as comfortable as it was energizing. Langer is pleased to have Becanic be part an already dynamic staff. \”Anytime we have an opportunity to add a coach of that magnitude to our program, we need to take advantage of it\”, Langer said. \”He\’s a proven winner, and a loyal friend who gave me my start in coaching. It\’s great to have him here.\” Langer went on to add, \”We\’re fortunate to have an ownership group here that is committed to growing our players and our program as a whole. Having John on our staff is a definite result of that commitment.\”

Becanic is expected to contribute in all areas, from recruiting to teaching and every step in the process of helping junior level hockey players reach their goals and grow as both people and players. \”I\’m excited to work with Scott again\”, said Becanic. \”He and I share a lot of the same philosophies and principles about the game. This is a great situation in Topeka, and I\’m looking forward to being a part of it.\” Langer echoed the sentiment. \”One of the biggest things I believe in is loyalty. Loyalty to your team, your friends, your family. John feels the same, and moving forward, that\’s a refreshing feeling.\”
