ROADRUNNER ENROLLS IN LOCAL SCHOOL

Being a RoadRunner means working hard to achieve one's goals. Education is the ultimate goal, not just for our players, but also for the Runners organization as a whole. Goaltender Matej Tomek is one such player who is furthering his education right here in Topeka as a newly enrolled student at Shawnee Heights High School.

"We are excited to form this relationship with Shawnee Heights," said head coach Scott Langer. "Matej is a high-end athlete and we are thrilled to have him complete this level of his education in the Topeka Community."

Still recovering from an leg injury suffered earlier this season, Tomek will be splitting time between his rehab schedule, video sessions, ice time, and finishing his classwork at Shawnee Heights. That's a lot of work for one player, but Matej has his eyes on the ultimate objective: Graduating high school by May of next year.

"We are exited to have Matej join the T-bird family," said Shawnee Heights Counselor Laurie Crimmins. "It is always nice when students from other countries enroll in our program. he can share his culture and experiences with our students while learning what American high school is all about. This also gives the Shawnee Heights community another reason to follow the Topeka RoadRunners."

The RoadRunners organization is committed to enriching the lives of our players both on and off the ice. With over 100 players moved on to a college education, the RoadRunners are among the league leaders in this regard.

The Runners return to the ice this weekend against the Lone Star Brahmas. Be at Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant this Tuesday at 6pm for the RoadRunners Coach's Show. Arch Ecker will tee up the upcoming series along with head coach Scott Langer and special guest team captain Mike Gornall. Fans can watch the games locally this Friday and Saturday night at the Official Away Game Viewing Parties. All RoadRunners games can also be heard live on Sports Radio 1490 KTOP.
