NHL Sharks Call Up Former RoadRunner Hayes
Current AHL Worcester Shark and former RoadRunner forward Eriah Hayes has been called up by the San Jose Sharks of the NHL. If Hayes can make his way from the snow socked northeast, he could be suiting up for his first NHL game today or tomorrow against the Colorado Avalanche.
“From day one, there was never a question that Eriah could play in the NHL,” said Runners Head Coach Scott Langer. “He’s a big power forward and a first-class athlete whose work ethic and persistence made him stand out among his peers in the NAHL. I couldn’t be more proud of Eriah and his accomplishments.”
During the 2007-2008 season, Hayes racked up 30 goals and 26 assists for the RoadRunners, play which elevated him to the USHL the following year. After a strong season for the Waterloo Black Hawks, Hayes went on to play for Minnesota State-Mankato where he amassed 52 goals, 44 assists in four seasons. Last year, Hayes was signed a two-year, two-way contract with San Jose and has been assigned to the Worcester Sharks. In seven games for Worcester, Hayes has contributed 3 goals and an assist.
Hayes is the third RoadRunner to sign an NHL contract following Cole Schneider (Ottawa) and Joel Rechlicz (NY Islanders, Washington Capitals). He looks to join Rechlicz as a former RoadRunner with ice time in the big show.
