Finding a college with a strong academic program and strong hockey history was a must for RoadRunners forward Jeff Makowski.
And when Makowski discovered Division III Milwaukee (Wis.) School of Engineering, where he has committed for the 2017-2018 campaign, he knew it was the right fit.
MSOE, founded in 1903, are known as the “Raiders.” He will compete in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
“I wanted to fulfill my dream of playing hockey at the college level and earn an excellent degree in school, which led me to my decision to attend Milwaukee School of Engineering next fall,” Makowski said.
Makowski’s tenure with Topeka included 16 goals and 23 assists in a season and a half.
“He’s a guy that comes to work every day, and he’s certainly been one of our leaders over the last year and a half,” RoadRunners head coach Josh Kamrass said.
Kamrass agreed that Makowski’s mind was in the right place in his collegiate selection.
“The Milwaukee School of Engineering is not only a great school for him for hockey, but it’s a great school for the pride he takes in his academics, “ Kamrass said.
Makowski, born in Wildwood, Mo., started his trek to the North American Hockey League after playing several years in the St. Louis area, with the St. Louis Amateur Blues U18 roster.
“Jeff comes from a rich hockey family,” Kamrass said. “It’s in his blood, and it’s cool to see the St. Louis community give him a chance to succeed.”
Makowksi stated his time as RoadRunners player and assistant captain has helped shape him to the person he is heading off to Milwaukee.
“The Roadrunners have helped me grow as a leader on the team representing the organization as the assistant captain,” Makowski said. “Furthermore, they have helped me lead off the ice by reading to children at schools, teaching kids the importance of health & exercise and spending time with people in need.”
And now as an alumnus of the organization, he stated he will continue to support and cheer on the organization in the coming years.
“I am grateful to be an alumnus and excited to represent and support the RoadRunners after my time in Topeka,” Makowski said.
