Jeff Burke has his college plans all laid out, joining the University of Wisconsin – River Falls this coming season where he will skate with five other former RoadRunners. However, before he gets there, he will wear the red, white and blue one more time, this time as a member of the RoadRunner Alumni Team.

The 6’3” 215 lb. blueliner made his presence felt right from the first tryout camp in Somerset, WI and would earn a spot on the team where he would play in 104 regular and post season games over two seasons, contributing three goals and fourteen assists overall. He finished at a plus +12 in his junior career and racked up 267 PIM’s . “Jeff was a textbook, old school, stay-at-home defenseman”, said head coach Scott Langer. “He wasn’t a risk taker, and stayed responsible in the defensive zone. You need guys like that in your lineup.”

With the next chapter in his playing career about to begin, Burke is optimistic. “I think I will enjoy playing in Wisconsin”, Burke said. “It will be close for friends and family to come watch games and I think it’s going to be a very fun experience.” His major is as of yet undecided. As he reflects on his time in Topeka, his sentiment seems to echo that of most RoadRunners. “The greatest thing about Topeka had to be our fan base. They supported us for everything it was a very great place to play.”

Burke will skate in front of those fans once again on Sunday Sept. 5 when the Alumni Team faces the 2010-11 RoadRunners. Game time is 12:00 noon and tickets are available at the Expocentre Box Office or by calling 785-297-1000.
