Bulls Take Charge in the Third, Win 4-2
The RoadRunners (14-4-2) evened it up early in the third only to be undone by a long penalty and a relentless Bulls (12-2-3) attack. Despite the loss, the RoadRunners remain atop the South Division by one point over second place Texas.
Sean Gaffney’s powerplay goal trickled in the only lead for the RoadRunners on the night at 6:02 in the first period. At 18:45 in the same period, Tyler Gernhofer tied the score at 1-1.
Amarillo’s Mike Davis would make it 2-1 Bulls in the second, scoring the only goal of the frame.
But just 20 seconds into the third, Dan Dupell gave the RoadRunners new life with a game tying netter. The tide would quickly turn, however, as both Kyle Sharkey and Drew Kariofiles were charged with Game Misconduct and Unsportmanlike Conduct respectively, leading to a long penalty kill that the RoadRunners normally stout defense could not withstand. Ryan Cole put the Bulls on top 3-2 at 6:37 and Omar Mullan then put the game out of reach with a goal at 8:02.
The RoadRunners will hit the road next weekend to take on the Springfield Jr. Blues. Fans in Topeka are invited to watch the games on Friday and Saturday at Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant. The games start at 7pm but make a reservation or get there early as seats are limited.
Topeka will return to Landon Arena on Friday, November 23, to start a three game series against second-place Texas. This week also marks the RoadRunners Parents and Billets Appreciation Weekend. For more information on these games and tickets, call 785-286-PUCK or visit the Expocentre Box Office.
