Bulls Sweep Runners With 3-1 Victory

On a night when teddy bears rained from the rafters and hundreds of dollars were raised for charity, the RoadRunners (19-7-5) dropped their third straight game to the South Division leading Bulls (23-3-3) by a score of 3-1.

RoadRunners fans can hold their heads up proudly as all of RoadRunner Nation came up big for the United Way and the Topeka Rescue Mission. During both games this weekend, hand painted ornaments from the players were auctioned off with all of the proceeds going to the United Way of Greater Topeka’s Christmas Bureau. The Christmas Bureau will use the money raised to help local area families through the holidays. The United Way thanks all of the fans who donated generously and declared the auction a huge success.

Not to be outdone, fans really stepped up for the Topeka Rescue Mission with this year’s Teddy Bear Toss. In the third period, Brandon Brossoit scored a shorthanded unassisted goal that released the floodgates. Bears covered the ice requiring a lengthy delay for clean-up. After they were collected, Country Legends 1069 FM bagged the bears up for the Topeka Rescue Mission. Thanks to all of the RoadRunners fans in attendance these bears will be donated to deserving children and help brighten Christmas for many struggling Topeka families.

And then there was the game.

Mike Davis continued a strong series with his third goal at 10:36 in the first to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead. Ryan Cole added to that lead in the second on a shorthanded breakaway to make it 2-0 at 15:35. After Brossoit’s goal made it 2-1 at 9:56 in the third, Omar Mullan tapped in an empty netter at 19:45 to salt away the victory for the Bulls.

The RoadRunners will go their separate ways for the holidays  but will be back at Landon Arena on December 28 and 29 against the Springfield Jr. Blues. The first game of that series will mark the first Ticket Exchange Night of the season for RoadRunners Season Ticket Holders.
